What is general relief assistance? Cass County General Relief Assistance shall be provided to residents of this county as mandated by the Code of Iowa, Section 252.25. The purpose and policy of such provisions of relief, where appropriate, is to direct the applicant in removing barriers to self-sufficiency and economic self-support to prevent, reduce, or eliminate dependency. It is not intended to be, nor shall it be, an ongoing support. Who qualifies for general relief assistance? Cass County General Relief Assistance provides assistance to residents of Cass County, Iowa who are needy and poor and in need of immediate assistance and who cannot obtain assistance from any other source. They must be at least 18 years of age and meet current income and resource guidelines. What Services are Available? Assistance may be provided for rent, utilities, food, or indigent burial, to name a few. A voucher system is utilized with direct payment to the vendor, never cash.
