City of Mesa residents apply and are qualified per poverty guidelines and state regulations. Financial coaching is available to help clients learn how to manage their monthly and yearly budgets. Families learn about credit and how to manage financial resources.
La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter is a 16-unit family shelter that provides services to help homeless families with minor aged children. It is a warm, safe, secure temporary home for families in crisis. Services include:
Temporary Emergency Shelter Case Management Focused on Permanent Housing Solutions Onsite Behavioral Health Services for Children Onsite Childcare through Headstart Access Point for Maricopa County Workforce Connections Provision of Basic Living Needs La Mesita is the only family emergency shelter in the East Valley providing a broad array of services to homeless families, as contracted through the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
For orientation call on Thursdays between 2:00pm -2:30pm.

I am 69 and my husband is 68 we are in need of money for rent is month... we can't drive and my husband is hard of hearing needs hearing aids and he can't walk very well. Please how can we get help ? Thank you. Darlene Nicastro
My rent balance is 922.00 everything is included I had to take a week and a half off of work due to some allergies I had being an essential Albertsons worker precaution to the public safety is our top priority I have check stubs and can obtain paperwork that may be needed regarding my finances
I need assistance with rental assistance. We live at the arbor apt. And due to the pandemic we my husband and I both lost our jobs and literally have no income at this point. We have submitted unemployment benifits claims. However I have not heard back from them ever since March2020 when unemployment was denied 10 days before the pandemic hit. And just 10 days after I started my new job we all were furloed due to corona virus. We return back in June. However they reduced our hours and so I had gotten very sick in June 2020 but sent home and without a job. My husband lost his job due to a severe car accident. He was struck by a drunk driver. There is plenty of funding for Mesa and the news stated over 7 million in funds yet I have been calling for 3 months and no one answers the calls between 2pm and 2:30pm and I work those hours. I just started a job and I do not want to move.
This program is a joke. No one EVER answers. It always says funds have been reached. Or busy tone. People are losing their homes and keep being assigned to MesaCAN and it’s a dead end. No one reaches out, it’s impossible to reach someone directly, and the 30 min to reach out for rent and utility assistance is so far below the bare minimum it’s sickening. People need to start reaching out to our congressman and demand help. There are millions out of work, millions with no income and no unemployment. Can hardly put gas in the car, let alone SRP and rent. I’m very disgusted with MesaCAN for making no real effort to try to help the community.
