Jefferson County Health and Welfare Department assists indigent persons with medical assistance, burials, rent, utilities, drugs, non-food items, counseling, and transportation to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
Also operates several health clinics in the Jefferson County. Basic Needs Services assists with indigent residents' needs for room and board, utilities, burials, and transportation to Galveston for medical care.North Jefferson County residents Precincts 1 & 4 who meet income guidelines are eligible for this service.
Primary Health Care Clinics provide medical clinic visits for $10 and free transportation to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. All primary patients pay for their prescriptions.Must meet eligibility requirements 25-133% FPI.
There is also an Indigent Health Care Program for qualifying county residents. Medical services are available which include a minimum of three 3 free prescriptions per month. Transportation to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston is provided free of charge and patients are picked up at their home and delivered back after their appointments. This service is available Tuesday through Friday with patient pick up to begin at 6:30am.
Burial Program provides pauper burial for eligible Jefferson County residents depends on income and resources. A person must not have insurance or additional resources available to be eligible for this program. Fees: $10 for clinic visit
